Ok so I was at the bookstore today…browsing movie magazines, and I stumbled upon this small section in a DVD magazine…dedicated to readers collection of DVDs…where readers get to boast the huge collection they have …with pictures and all. And wow…the collection they feature was huge…This guy had like close to 3000 DVD…Wow. And of course he doesn’t have the biggest…Some other guy has like close to 14000 DVDs. Lets do a calculation. How much do I need to get myself 14000 DVD assuming each costs at least $25….14000×25=350000…again Wow.Thats a lot of money. Haha…If only I have that much…my collection is pretty pathetic…not worth mentioning…Then again why would I want 14000 DVDs…other then…to show it off in a magazine…I’d want only the good ones…the ones I actually like…the ones I can watch over and over again…thats maybe like a 1000 at most. 🙂 or maybe a lot less.

The Golden Compass
View trailer here. Ok…I kinda like the poster. The icy blue shades…kinda makes you think its a Snow Queen movie of some sort…and the huge polar bear reminds of those polar bears in Chronicles of Narnia. The trailer…hmm didn’t really like it…again looks too much like Narnia…from the colours…the effects…even how the animal looks like…Neither can I really get what the movie is about…and from my perspective…it looks all too similar to Narnia. Sure the poster and trailer looks pretty and all…but overall it doesn’t really grab me.
Becoming Jane
View the trailers here and here. Ok I love period/costume dramas. I love the effort trying to keep the language/settings/costumes true to the era. And I’m really looking forward to this. I like the trailers and all. The scenes look pretty…of course it definitely reminds me of Mansfield Park and Pride and Prejudice…I hope its as good.
Enchanted
View the trailer here. The trailer is out…but not the poster…thats weird. Haha…this film looks cute. The trailer starts off like the typical old fashion Disney fairytale with the whole singing thing… suddenly we see the princess being push into the fountain…and drops right into the real world…then she goes around New York looking for a way to get home to her prince…and ta da …she bumps into McDreamy. You know what I’m interested…seems like a fun comedy watch…How will a fairytale princess survive in the real world…
I Know Who Killed Me
View the trailer here. Hmm the blue glowing flower…it does look mysterious…with the blood dripping off it at the bottom…but other than that I don’t get the significance of the flower…what does it suppose to mean? This must be Lindsay Lohan’s first thriller right? The trailer is so so…has the typical trailer of a thriller look. First we meets Aubrey…then she goes missing…and when she’s found…it isn’t really Aubrey…its Dakota…a girl who looks like Aubrey ( Lindsay back to her Parent Trap days playing twins?)…Are they really twins? Different people? Or is the case of a split personality? I’m keen to watch this. I wanna know what happens. If I have to make a guess here…I think its the split personality thing.
Bratz
View the trailer here. Another poster out. Now we get to see part of their face. The trailer is ok I guess for teenagers. We see some pretty girls wearing some pretty clothes…talking about being BFF (I hate the stupid BFF things)…Then we meet a mean girl who shows them the cliques ( like in Mean Girls isn’t it) at school and wants to seperate them (aww…what a major disaster)…somewhere along they do join the cliques and weren’t BFFs anymore…One day all being stuck at detention…they reunite believing that they should all be themselves and BFFs again…or something like that. Frankly I’m not really interested in this little flick…but I might just watch it…just to see how bad it could be…cause it does look a little crappy. Now I’m wondering when are they going to make a live action movie of Barbie.
Aquamarine (2006) Two teenage girls discover a me…

Two teenage girls discover a mermaid, Aquamarine, in their pool. And when the mermaid falls in love with the lifeguard…they help her to win his heart.
This movie got a 3+ rating on imdb…come on….it wasn’t that horrible…it was fairly entertaining…it was cute I thought…and its target audience…tween girls… should like it…right?…Even I liked it. It was cheery…cute…sweet and fun film about growing up and friendship. I mean sure it was a tiny bit cheesy at times…but it’s a kids movie…one can’t really expect that much. And hey it wasn’t all that predictable right…you would have thought they all get their wish…The only thing I pretty much didn’t like was their vision of a mermaid…they went a tad overboard…with the forming legs on land…turning back to tails at night…fingernails changing colour…having great fashion sense…and starfish giving complements…could have made a simpler mermaid (something like Ariel)…I know it kinda sounds bad…especially since the movie is about the mermaid…But really…as a whole…the movie is ok…Girls will definitely like it.
Oh one question I have…when the girls went shopping…I noticed a Giordano (see picture above) shopping bag…I wasn’t aware that they have stores in the US…do they? I’m curious…or issit just plain advertising?
Yours, Mine and Ours (2005) Admiral Frank Beard…

Admiral Frank Beardsley runs the Coast Guard Academy. He is also a widower with eight children and runs his family like the academy. Helen North on the other hand is a free spirited bag designer with ten children…most of them adopted. During a high school reunion, Frank and Helen, who as it turns out were high school sweethearts, are reunited and almost immediately fall in love all over again. Soon they are married. How do you bring together two families with a total of 18 kids to live together under one roof. Will it be chaos?
Yours, Mine and Ours is actually a remake of the original 1968 version starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda as the two leads. I have actually watched the original movie and really really like it. It was a fun and funny family film. I loved seeing how things worked in the 60’s…and how they dressed too. And with 18 kids…it was fun seeing how the family get through the typical family stuff like preparing breakfast and getting ready for school/work…Then there was the scene where they were buying groceries…how many loaves of bread did they buy???
Anyway…so I was kinda apprehensive when I heard that they were making a remake…most remakes a couple steps down from the original. Any how…I still decided to watch this one…just to see how bad it could be…And surprisingly…I didn’t find it horribly bad. I actually enjoyed watching it. I mean seriously I thought it was much much better than the Cheaper by the Dozen remakes…I found them annoying…ok maybe…that’s attributed to Hilary Duff’s character’s constant whining…actually all the children were whiny. And I also found Yours, Mine and Ours to have less cringe worthy scenes…compared to Cheaper by the Dozen.
But don’t be mistaken…this movie does have several flaws…or more like stuff that I didn’t like. I’d much prefer if they stick more to the original storyline…where…Helen North was not a free spirited hippie type…who loves mess and adopted a bunch of kids. And I have no idea…why today’s made for family flick loves mess…there was the eating breakfast mess…the painting mess…oh and the shopping mess…where the twins got on the lifting machine…I mean seriously those scenes were not funny…I can’t remember the original having any of that stuff…and of course we all know…the original was much better…Maybe its time people stick to the old formula?
